11-20-10

This is a Terror "stay free tee". And no, it's not a straight edge shirt. That's a common misconception at the Merch table. It's a 2010 USA world cup rip off. Scott had a USA soccer jersey on summer rotation and we decided to run with it. Came out so good that it's also the back of a zip up sweatshirt too.

Current:

11-19-10

Going thu the Midwest, there are a lot of chances to get Notre Dame tee shirts. So I do. They got a big game vs Army tomorrow at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Wear that green!

Tour update:
2 or 3 shows left. I had a chili salad from wendys and it put me in a food coma. Watch out! "peekipsee" tonight, it's cold. Get warm. Watched the movie social network, liked it. New sons of anarchy is ok.

(weird pic but that's apps in the middle)

This is the Aaron Apps interview. It's a little different, but nonetheless special. Apps was the mail-order guy at B9 records forever, and was a head dog at sully's shirt selling outside of Fenway park. Also road dogg'd for Have Heart, and annually contributes to the Jim Rome show on espn radio. Good read!

1. Step bros or old school? Why?

Damn, both classics obviously, but I think I have to go with Step Bros because of all the good memories associated with it.  It's not just the lines from the movie itself that are so funny, it's all the funny shit we did over that week two winters ago when we watched it 40 times in 5 days.  One I'll never forget:  I asked you why you put the subtitles on and you said, "It's like when you get the new Have Heart record and you want to listen to it while reading the lyrics at the same time."

2. What goes into making a hardcore business journal? Where does inspiration come from?

I mean, you have to have an intense dislike of the business side of hardcore and a sense of humor.  I've moved on though, now The Poppycock Intelligencer is my zine and nobody is safe.

3. What's it like living with Kei (guitarist of have heart, I shared a room with him for 2+ years)?

Living with Kei is the best thing I've ever done.  He trains me every day at the gym and makes sure I'm eating right.  I am in the best shape of my life and we've only been living together for 2 months, imagine what I'll look like in May? The only downside is that he does steroids and when he flips out I'm the one that has to wrestle him to the ground.

4. What's your pre-game before some golf? Nick saban eats a coffee cake, some people take 10 min naps before athletic prowess?

My pre-game is pretty simple.  I try to eat something filling but not heavy because I don't want to be too concerned with food while I'm out there on the course but I don't want to feel heavy either.  Usually I take a 10 pound weight, hold it at my chest and just rotate back and through to crack my back.  Usually crack my fingers and wrists just because.  I listen to something with a good beat on the way to the course, last summer it was usually some Drum n Bass stuff I snagged from DJ B-dard.  I hit like 20-30 balls at the range, no more, I'm just looking for a rhythm to carry onto the course, not trying to do any serious work on my swing right before a round.  After that I'm usually ready to meet whoever I've been paired up with and then we're off.

5. Who's going to win it all in college football this year? Who has the best jerseys?

Best jersey, I don't know, I kind of dig the crazier variations of Oregon's uniforms.  As far as who will win it all, I don't even know where to begin.  If you had sent this Friday I would have said Oregon is unstoppable, but they looked pretty bad on Saturday, and I thought I was going to have to send Rome another email about them signed Kanye West's Mom.  Auburn looks good, but the chances of them beating 'Bama AND Cam Newton not getting booted before the end of the season is slim.  I'm really hoping that this is the year a TCU or Boise St. can sneak in and do something miraculous.  At the end of the day though the real winner will be Columbia University because all these clowns who don't make the cut in the NFL will end up working for us.

6. Who's the last celebrity you've seen in NYC?

Went to see Angels in America the other night and Leonard Nimoy was in the audience (the guy who played Spock in the newest movie was starring in the play).  Some cool trekkie brotherhood going on there.

6.5 how many inches taken off a sweatshirt arm constitutes a proper "bellicheck" of a sweatshirt. Explain the process please.

The sleeves have to hang gracefully below the elbow, I think that's really the only requirement.  One optional move is shredding the neck.  I do that on all my sweatshirts anyway because I like the look.  I saw that a Free Spirit hoodie went for like 150 bucks on ebay recently, I think I should Belichick mine just to anger the kids.

7. Shout-outs:

European merch can be so cool sometimes. Here we have Terror sweatpants & socks. It's winter time and sweatpants are warm. Some people say wearing sweatpants is a sure sign that you've given up. I just like the way they feel. They also have draw strings at the bottom of the legs, very cool feature. Sweat suits are even cooler.

11-15-10

This is my OG Terror "takeover recs" longsleeve. These things were a staple of california hardcore via 2002/2003. It was also in a grey hoodie variation. Simple, classic. This very one used to belong to Mr. Ivan Murillo of Dead Wrong & Unforgiven. I traded him a size Large one for his XL. And i think he said it was unworn? That's how this blog has helped me in the past, trade & get stuff.

Currently on tour with Terror in London, Ontario. Still pretty crazy to think back when I was 17 going to Terror shows at Gilman st, Oakland, and the Pound in the bay area, and now I tour with them. Pretty cool. I've gotten rid of a lot of shirts over the past years, def not this one tho.

11-14-10

Jordo plays guitar in Terror, used to be in No Warning. He is one of the most colorful people I know. We share a bench in the Terror van. So I hope these questions are a window into his world.

1. Tell me why obituary is the hardest band.

-Because their music is the definition of murder.
-Because they are the full package... Jon Tardy has the true voice of the devil. He invented his own style and no one has since come close to topping it. Trevor Peres riffs are                   untouchable and he looks like a zombie  and Don Tardy's  drumming is as tasteful as it gets.
-They've been rocking camo's since the late 80's
-Listen to the song "Paralyzing"

I dont give a shit if they've released the same album everytime, they're the AC/DC of death metal, and that's fine by me. The only band that rivals Obituary in sheer brutality and catchiness is Hatebreed.

2. Tommy boy or black sheep? Why?

Easy answer. Tommy Boy.  They're both pretty much the same movie but Tommy Boy has a better plot and just better jokes with a better cast. I wonder how much coke Farley was on while filming it.

3. Favorite Seinfeld episode

Too hard of a question... but here a few that come to mind...  "The parking space" from season 3.  "The Airport", from season 4. "The Rye" from season 7.

4. Top 3 favorite movies of 2010?

Shutter Island
Hot Tub Time Machine
Kick Ass

honourable mentions:
The Town
Piranha 3D

5. What can we expect from 2011?

Fun

 6. Shout-outs & random thoughts:

Terror family, the Nasty Souls, Zaxby's, Juicy Joel, Andy Williams, Kent  ect....

all my thoughts are random. I'll keep it at that.

11-13-10

This used to be a regular insert in my blog, and now it's back! Enjoy!

Random thoughts with Scott Vogel:

Having a barricade at most shows is way more dangerious then not having one....its not that hard to swallow the food in your mouth before you speak.....I'm not to messy with food but I always seem to spill mustard on myself...college basketball is popin off, let's go hoyas!!...sabers are in last and the bills are 0 - 8, that sucks....I sometimes wonder what an 18 year old with face and hand tatoos will think like and be doing in 10 years...the color orange is cool......people best respect no warning, better then most. Period.....check out the acacia strain if you don't know them, not my style but I think they are real....winter in Syracuse will be mucky......can't wait for a dead and path LP, ep is so good.....the town was a cool movie for sure....joell Ortiz is the best mc out right now......crossing the Canadian border in 2 days will be so gay, how is that the hardest country to get into that I've ever delt with..... Its getting dark out at around 5PM, that just doesn't feel right...isn't it weird that you can put something light in an  envelope, pay 44 or so cents, drop it in a blue box and it shows up whenever you want a few days later.
